The Marmore Falls are the highest artificial waterfalls in Europe and among the highest in the world, with a total drop of 165 m divided into three stages. With a controlled flow, they are formed by the Velino and Nera rivers, tributaries of the Tiber, and are located about 7 km from the city center of Terni, almost at the mouth of the Valnerina valley. It is part of the Nera River Park. In 271 BC, the Roman consul Manius Curius Dentatus ordered the construction of a canal to drain stagnant water towards the natural Marmore waterfall: from there, the water fell directly into the Nera River, a tributary of the Tiber.
The park's opening hours and water release times vary depending on the season.
